Quick Take:

Offering many of the advantages of it's TH42PWD6UY sibling, the Panasonic TH42PHD5UY Plasma TV also includes support for HDTV, with it's improved 1024x768 pixel resolution. An excellent TV overall, but at a premium price for true HDTV capabilities.

Pros:

- Outstanding black levels
- Excellent colors right out of the box - only minimal setting adjustments needed
- Exceptional brightness and contrast
- High definition image with great clarity
- Easy to use menu system and remote control

Cons:

- Considerably higher pricing for the benefit of HDTV - approximately $2000 more at street prices
- Improved resolution generally only noticeable with HD sources
- Many home theater enthusiasts argue that the non-HD unit has better picture quality for non-HDTV signals
