Your guide to buying a Plasma TV for cheap

Gateway 42-inch Plasma TV Review
MSRP: $5,995

Quick Take:

The Gateway 42-inch Plasma TV (there is no model number for Gateway) makes a great budget Plasma TV for those that would mainly use it for DVD viewing. It's weak display of broadcast signals prevents it from receiving a higher recommendation. Pricing is usually amongst the lowest of all 42-inch Plasma TVs, and although it is not as capable as some other units, it's price is quite cheap and easy on the wallet (relatively speaking of course). Street prices are around $3000 for this unit currently. Note that this unit is the same as the Sampo PME-42S6 Plasma TV.

Pros:

- One of the brightest displays in production, with natural color performance
- Exceptional DVD display- for it's price it is amongst the best, and comparable to some costing more
- Shallow display; just 3.74" deep
- Built-in speakers and nice overall design elements
- Operates very quietly - excellent for small rooms
- Gateway has offered 12-month financing programs recently for this TV

Cons:

- Some pixelation noticed in darker scenes
- Some artifacts during high-speed motion scenes, depending on source
- Below average display of standard definition signals (broadcast, cable, TiVo, etc.)
- Speakers are underpowered for theater use
