Sampo PME-42X6 42-inch
Plasma HDTV Review
MSRP: $4,999
Quick Take:
Similar to Sampo's
42S6 42-inch Plasma model, the 42X6
adds HDTV support with an impressive 1024x1024 pixel resolution. If
you are looking for a cheap way to get into a plasa HDTV, this Sampo
model is a good choice. It does not offer the most features, or absolutely
the best picture quality, but for it's current street price, the 42X6
is an impressive unit and one of the best bargains.
Pros:
- Very good high
definition support with 1024x1024 pixel resolution.
- Excellent progressiv scan DVD playback
- DVI input for support of latest DVD players and high definition tuners
- Excellent colors with all video sources, and especially when watching
high definition
- Picture-in-picture capability
Cons:
- Blacks can look
muddy in low-light conditions. The 42X6 is best in medium to high ambient
lighting conditions.
- Out of the box color settings are off, and require adjustment to both
contrast and brightness to generate and optimal picture
- DVI does not offer HDCP (digital content protection) support, as stated
in the Sampo literature
